Alfred Slipper 1887-1915

Alfred Ernest Slipper was my Great Grand Uncle, the younger brother of Albert Edward Slipper, my Great Grandfather.

He was born on 5th January 1887 in Romford, Essex.

The 1911 census gives his address as 18 Goldsmith Avenue, Manor Park, Essex. He is living with my Great Grandfather and his family and is a packer in a warehouse.

Alfred married Daisy Ethel Rush in 1912. They had a daughter, Gladys, in 1913 and a son, Alfred, born after his father’s death in 1915.

He joined the 4th Battalion Rifle Brigade in 1914 and they landed at Le Havre on 21st December 1914.

He died on 5th May 1915 during the 2nd Battle of Ypres.

Alfred has no known grave and is commemorated on the Menin Gate “Rifleman 451, 4th Bn Rifle Brigade Commemorated on panel 46-48 and 50, Ypres(Menin Gate) memorial.”
