Henry Samuel Porter 1902-1981

Henry Samuel Porter was my maternal Grandfather. He was known as “Nobby”.

Henry was born on 29th January 1902 in Barking, Essex to Henry and Mary Ann and was baptised on 19th February.

The 1911 census shows the family living at 56 Cranbourne Road, Barking.  There are 9 people at the address including some of his mother’s family.

Henry married Clara Mundy on 11th February 1933 and they had just one daughter.

In 1939 the family were living at 15 Whiting Ave, Barking and Henry was a Beater Filler at the Paper Mill.

During WWII Henry was a crane operator on Barking docks. This was a reserved occupation and so he stayed in the UK.

After his wife’s death in 1963, Henry moved in with us in Ilford, which is where he died on 4th August 1981.

He was buried on 10th August in Rippleside Cemetery, Barking with Clara – R/S / K / 1083
