James Wren 1796-1874

James was my husband's 3 x great grandfather and father of William.

He was born in Saffron Walden, Essex to John and Grace and baptised in the church of St Mary the Virgin on 19th June 1796.

Holy Trinity, Littlebury

James married Mary Kemp on the 7th November 1815 at Holy Trinity Church, Littlebury, Essex.

James was an agricultural labourer before Mary died in 1852.

The 1861 census shows that he is now a groom (age 65) in the household of Robert Piper, a farmer in the Chesterford Road, Saffron Walden.

By 1871, James is 75 and is lodging with James Carter, an agricultural labourer, and his family in North End, Saffron Walden.

He died in North End on the 29th January 1874 and was buried in Littlebury on the second of February.
