Thomas was my great great grandfather and father of Harriet.
He was born to Thomas and Elizabeth in 1838 and baptised in St Mary Magdalene, East Ham, Essex on 18th March.
Thomas spent his childhood living on the Barking Road in an area known as Wall End, a locality in East Ham, East London, lying to the north of Beckton between Barking and East Ham. The name stems from an embankment wall that was formerly used to prevent flooding from the river Roding at the 'end' or 'outlying part' of East Ham .
By 1861 the family had moved to Barking. Thomas' father was an agricultural labourer and so moved to where the work was.
Thomas was living in Bethnal Green, London at the time of his marriage to Emily Louisa Pembroke. They married in the church of St James the Great, Bethnal Green on 10th September 1876.
In 1881 they are lodging with 3 children (including my great grandmother, Harriet) at the house of Emily's family, No 3 Park Terrace, Fisher Street, Barking, Essex. Thomas is working as a labourer.
Ten years later they have 6 children and are living at 18 Union Street, Barking.
They have had two more children by 1901 and are living at Grove Place, Barking. Thomas died later the same year.
